The battle of Bamber bridge. by Markis McCollum

WHAT CONGRESS NEVER WANTED THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO KNOW.

More history you were never taught in school.

Battle of Bamber Bridge

Jun 24, 1943 – Jun 25, 1943

On this day in 1943 black American soldiers faced off with white American Military police during World War II on British soil. Yes you read correctly black American soldiers had to fight their own white American soldiers, while in England, where they were fighting for the world.

Why? Because the English town of Bamber Bridge in Lancashire was not segregated so they treated the black soldiers like all other races, aka blacks were free to eat, drink anywhere, BUT back in America segregation of blacks and whites still existed. So essentially the American army went to someone else’s country and demanded they adopted America’s racist practices

So when the American Military police found out that their own black American soldiers were drinking at the same pubs as white people they went in to arrest them. The people in the town got mad about the treatment of the black soldiers and decided to then turn their pubs into “BLACKS ONLY DRINKING PUBS” the very opposite of what was taking place in America with their WHITES ONLY businesses.

Of course this pissed off the American military so guns went blazing, and when word spread back at camp that black soldiers had been shot, scores of men formed a crowd, some carrying rifles and by midnight more American military police arrived with a machine gun-equipped vehicle, so the black soldiers had no choice but to get rifles from British stores while others barricaded themselves back on base, so now it was American white soldiers versus American black soldiers. This lead to the death of one solider, injury of 7, and 32 convictions.

Back in America the battle was hushed up because they didn’t want the country to find out that they were fighting their own soldiers which would anger the black population and weaken the morale in the country.

You may read about the ill treatment of black American soldiers by their own army in the book FORGOTTEN.

Israel’s artsy little secret “till now” by Markis McCollum

Jerod Chandler is a native of Columbia, South Carolina who is a self taught artist; who has also studied at the Art Institute of Charleston. Mr. Chandler is an aspiring business owner in hopes of running his own art gallery to benefit all forms of art as well as fellow artists.

IMG_9472.JPG

Chandler is not only an incredible artist but, also a business man with experiences in marketing, entrepreneurship, to include studying Business Management at the University of Maryland. Chandler hopes to achieve his dream to help others network and give all artist an opportunity to display their talents and artwork.

IMG_9474.JPG

The reason behind this dream is that, he saw the need for artist to have a platform to express their talents. With the lack of stages, this will also give an opportunity for those who appreciate art a chance to see all forms of art in a collective setting. Chandler sets on doing this by hosting and organizing various events with different themes with all forms of art performed and displayed.

IMG_9473.JPG

This dream manifested when the young artist himself struggled to find an outlet for his own work. Therefore, Chandler wants to create this dream. He states that he wants his company to be known for quality artwork, excellent professionalism, organization, as well as providing an opportunity for artist to thrive.

IMG_9475.JPG

Furthermore, he looks to serve the art world as well as those who enjoy it. He looks to benefit consumers by providing them an experience that can satisfy their spirit as well as giving them something they can appreciate.

IMG_9477.JPG

The core values that underpin his work are honesty, hard work, love, patience, discipline, and determination. Chandler finally states that, he measures his success simply by if any and everyone is willing to show up, support, and appreciate his work he is grateful. The things that he says that are missing is an art studio, more artist, and people who appreciate them.

Your opinion, should this be a thing...... by Markis McCollum

I’m bit of a history nerd. Watching old documentary’s read books and best of all learning from the people who have come before me and lived though some events that shaped history. I tend to think about the past and how it effects today’s issues.

Our leader of the “free” is one individual that keeps coming to mind when I think of the past. To be honest our former leader also. Obama and Trump.

These too has stirred up an evil and wicked feeling in America that has been lurking around for hundreds of years. One simply because of his skin color has invoked a hate that was kept on the low and used almost with out notice. The when the current leader arose and made it a call to arms for all who hate people of color the poor and disenfranchised.

FullSizeRender.jpg

The picture above is a old picture from the Jim Crow/ segregation era but it color was added to the picture you would think it was 2018. Even though this display of ignorance has been around for ever you would think that with time and advancement it would of dissipate. Nope. Still here.

As it becomes more a more in your face people are forced to speak out, those that speak out are ether chastise, mocked or  ridicule. I.e “black lives matter” once that’s said then comes, but wait “all lives matter”. We know all lives do matter but right now black lives need attention, so you mean to tell me “black lives matter” more than “blue lives matter”????  See the argument??? It will just go in circles. Three things then I’m off it. If “blue lives matter” why are ya’ll just saying it shouldn’t they have always mattered not just when it’s said that “black lives matter”? If “all lives matter” when why are there homeless people and kids adoption agencies wishing to be adopted? Then finally there are 15 houses in a area, the seventh house go’s up in flames. The fire department is called. Do they put water on all the houses or just the burning one??? Some of you might say the burning one an the two on the sides so they don’t burn also... true but that’s not all that’s the black life and maybe close friends, see what I’m saying?

But back to these pictures that has me thinking. With all the technology should we do facial recognition to find out who these people are. Are they teachers, judges, lawyers, daycare owners?? I just feel it’s important to know

Just some thoughts from the last few years.... by Markis McCollum

IMG_4571.JPG

I can honestly say the last 4 years of my Life has been no fun at at all. Upsets, disappointments, unmet goals, depression, anger you name it, its all been the summary for my last four years. People say ”count your blessings” and “it could always be worst”  but in reality you don’t want to hear that. (But it is true count every single blessing because it really COULD be worse).

I’m a 15 year active duty vet with 2 year reserves experience. I’ve been around the world more times than I can count. I’ve live in  Guam, England, Kuwait. I’ve been to Russia , Africa, Hawaii, Spain, Germany etc. and when it’s all said and done I still feel like I have not accomplished anything. I’ve brainstormed for along time on what makes me feel like this. Is it the entertainment world wishing I was them or could it be social media looking at people lie about how good there life is. Btw half of the dudes on social media are lying and half the chicks are homeless, just throwing that out there.Or maybe Low self-esteem or maybe a lack of identity due to no male role model in my life. Ima keep it 100% the women in my family has done an amazing job raising me!!!! From north Philadelphia all the way to cheltenham. They have been in my corner time and time again whether right, wrong or indifferent. But I must admit that lack of a male role model though......

Most people that know me knows for the most part I’m a very cool down to earth guy that cracks jokes and can lead deep conversations if needed. An for the most part I get along with everyone ( for the most part ). Though there are times where I question what is it that others see in me? Why do people put up with me? What do they see in me that I don’t see in myself?? See in the spirit of transparency here’s a little about me. I have a temper at times, can’t hold a relationship for long periods, I can write people off in seconds, I see in black and white meaning at times there’s no grey area with me and I’m a neat freak who tends to think they’re right a lot, just saying. WHO HAS TIME FOR A PERSON LIKE THAT???? Beats me, but yet people still hang around, I appreciate that... I really do.

So ya’ll are probably like ooookkkkkk so what about your intro and the last few years??? I got you, sorry for rambling. My military career was killed one day by a very bad decision from a very  incompetent man with no concept of  reality ( not my words but I agree 10000% ). And because of this man my  fate was sealed. A very important person in my life said “just because your in a leadership position, does not mean your a leader”. That begun the desent into depression. Can you imagine every time you did something you was always wrong? The more I tried to fix it the more I sanked deeper. Theres a radio guy by the name of  Charlemagne the God that aways state sometimes your life just has to experience divine intervention.  Divine intervention meaning if you don’t know when to walk away life will make the decision for you. And for a while it seemed like that. For my military people out there, NCO of the month, NCO of the quarter and  nominated for NCO of the year, how in the hell my EPR was a 3???? Divine freaking intervention smh. That 3 ended my 15 year career. Then You hear everyone say “thank you for your service” and “we support our troops” but what they don’t tell you is when it’s time to get a job that shit go’s out the window. Now don’t get it confused I received many job offers but that dollar sign was low, I even have people tell me if I hire you your salary would be more than I’m willing to pay. I can respect that because it was better than the sorry your over  qualified for this position aka we don’t want to pay you what your worth.

I’ve tried diffent avenues like selling health products and t-shirts etc. and I’ve come to realize one thing. I couldn’t sell ice water to people in hell. I sucked!!!! Im not an  entrepreneur at all sssooooo a 9-5 it is for me. I’m currently chasing my dream in law enforcement even though my job selections keep putting me in logistics. But I’m grateful for the job I have. I make good money and have good benefits an with all that, that grey cloud still loom overhead. 37 unmarried and no kids coming home to an loft with no one in it doesn’t help either.

Even though the past years and the current present sucks. I still have to press on. Sitting around feeling sorry for myself is not going to make the situation better. Find the silverlining and keep pushing. It funny how I still haven’t found my silverlining but ima keep pushing though. I just believe there’s something out there for me and I just have to find it. Where to look or start nnnoooooo clue but I’m still searching. At times I’m very emotionless to things and distance, not sure if it shows but I know when I am. An that many be just the thing stopping me we shall see.

I pray everyday that my mind set will correct itself and I get my fresh wind and do something amazing. But till then I’ll keep pushing. Thanks for your time, these are just my thoughts.

"When I used to dream" by Doug Tucker Jr. by Markis McCollum

FullSizeRender.jpg

"When I used to Dream "

When I used to Dream, my father would wake me tf up.

He'd say "Boy all that damn noise at night gonna get u beat tf up".

I'd apologize to my daddy saying "poppa i's don't mean any harms".

And he'd ask "well what the hell are you doing waking me before My alarms?".

I'm just dreaming at night poppa, I...I likes to see and be many things.

And he'd say "well don't try to be getting hung up on those be silly silly strings".

Well poppa I'm just fixing up my's future, I'd really like to play ball.

What!? "Nigga please, those for them known types..the too talls".

"The school boys of no education, the new slaves, under new laws".

"That shit is for the fool, for the dummy, not you all".

He'd say "grab a tool, fills ya tummy, play a music, be Lou Rawls".

"Be Malcom X, Dr. Martin, fill those shoes, ya ain't too small".

I wouldn't mind it if I find it and bind it to me where I could wear about two draws.

Them some big men, done Big things, I'm one man with just two balls.

"Coward!, on two feet worse than faggot, crying in submission when he crawls!".

I done been some hell of names, at the top of huge mountains, and verbally taken a few falls.

My daddy said he loves me but I've been the many worst of all things.

I wasn't sure for a long time if I'd ever free myself from the reigns.

Of him pulling and tugging, tugging and pulling me backwards in the rains.

And I broke free of incarceration, to some thought as eight years down the drain.

And memorized chapters of a Glorious Book, Learned me a few things.

That the dreamer is only sleep when he has not yet awaken his strength, untamed.

Wake up Dreamers, Fear not, the blame of the ashamed.

I wish I knew this, When I used to Dream.

The Speech that shook up BET and the world. # Jesse Williams by Markis McCollum

Jesse Williams

Jesse Williams

“Peace, peace. Thank you, Debra, thank you, BET. Thank you Nate Parker, Harry (Belafonte), and Debbie Allen for participating in that. Before we get into it, I just wanna say…you know, I brought my parents out tonight. I just wanna thank them for being here, for teaching me to focus on comprehension over career. That uh, they make sure I learn what the schools were afraid to teach us. And also to thank my amazing wife for changing my life.

Now, this award…this is not for me. This is for the real organizers all over the country, the activists, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the teachers the students that are realizing that a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do. Alright?

It’s kind of basic mathematics. The more we learn about who we are and how we got here, the more we will mobilize. Now this is also in particular for the black women, in particular, who have spent their lifetimes dedicated to nurturing everyone before themselves. We can and will do better for you.

Now, what we have been doing is looking at the data and we know that police somehow managed to deescalate, disarm and not kill white people every day. So what’s gonna happen is we are gonna have equal rights and justice in our own country, or we will restructure their function and ours.

Now…I got more, y’all. Yesterday would’ve been young Tamir Rice’s 14th birthday. So I don’t want to hear anymore about how ‘far we’ve come’ when paid public servants can pull a drive-by on a 12 year old playing alone in a park in broad daylight, killing him on television and then going home to make a sandwich.

Tell Rekia Boyd how much better it is to live in 2012 than it is to live in 1612 or 1712. Tell that to Eric Garner. Tell that to Sandra Bland. Tell that to Dorian Hunt.

Now the thing is though, all of us in here getting money, that alone isn’t gonna stop this, alright? Now dedicating our lives to getting money just to give it right back for someone’s brand on our body, when we spent centuries praying with brands on our bodies. And now we pray to get paid for brands on our bodies?

There has been no war that we have not fought and died on the front lines of. There has been no job we haven’t done, there’s no tax they haven’t levied against us and we’ve paid all of them. But freedom is somehow conditional here. “You’re free,” they keep telling us. “But see, she would’ve been alive if she hadn’t acted so…free.“

Now, freedom is always coming in the hereafter. You know what though, the hereafter is a hustle. We want it now. And let’s get it straight, a little sidenote:

The freedom of the brutalized is not to comfort the bystander. That’s not our job. Alright? Stop with all that. If you have a critique for the resistance, for our resistance, then you better have an established record of critique of our oppression. If you have no interests in equal rights for black people, do not make suggestions for those that do. Sit down.

We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries, yo. And we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind, while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment, like oil, black gold. Ghettoizing and demeaning our creations then stealing them. Gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit.

The thing is though, just because we’re magic doesn’t meant we’re not real. Thank you.”

Sho Baraka is back with new music and a new label "Humble Beast" by Markis McCollum

Sho Baraka

Sho Baraka

Those of us that listens to Christian Rap or Hip-Hop if you prefer, knows that Sho Baraka is a beast with the lyrics and wise in the Lord. Starting in Reach Records 116 movement is where the bulk of his fan base came from rapping along side of Leacre and Trip lee to name a few. The Tuskegee U. Alumni ( my Alma mater ) has always shown the people that you can love the Lord and deliver amazing music. From "turn my life up" to " lions and liers" Sho has always shown you the way of the Lord with a hip view. I've always said it and one time brought it up to him via FB messenger calling him the Thelonies Monk of Christian Rap, I was beside myself and shocked when he replied and LIKED that phase.

image.jpg

But the public was shocked when Sho stepped away from Reach Records to make a lane for himself. Even when being away from the label Sho always said he was still down with Reach 116 and Unashamed movement ( 116 movement stand for the Bible verse Romans 1:16 for I will be unashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ ) featuring on many of Reach projects. Dropping the album the Talented 10th was mixed with different opinions due to the still fresh departher from Reach, but the album went on to be a super solid and well crafted album and a staple in Christian rap.

image.jpg

Now this new deal with Humble Beast is what the fans and myself been dreaming of. Below are a few new projects that have been released and trust and believe there will be more to follow.

image.jpg

Here is a Video called the road to Humble.

Another Video with a great message !!
